Scotty Nguyen - Biography

If you had to describe poker professional Scotty Nguyen in one word, that one word would be, confident.  Scotty’s confidence, aggressive play and fun spirit at the poker table have really paid off for this Vietnam born pro as he is currently one of the top tournament money makers of all time.

Nguyen, also known as, “The Prince of Poker”, left Vietnam when he was just 14 years old and came to America to give himself a chance at a life outside of poverty.  Adjusting to life in America proved to be quite difficult for Scotty and as a teenager, he led quite the troublesome lifestyle.  It was during this period that he discovered poker.  In fact Scotty often chose to play poker instead of attending classes, eventually being forced to leave high school altogether.

Scotty quickly fell in love with the game and decided that this was the way he would make his living.  Early in his career, in order to help fund his bankroll, Nguyen took a job as a card dealer.  This job actually helped improve his game as he would learn by watching the players at his table.  He continued to study and practice and eventually climbed up the ladder to where he is today, one of the best players out there.

Over the years, Scotty developed a style and attitude that worked for him.  He’s best known today by the way he always uses the word “baby” at the end of all his sentences.  He is well liked in the poker world and never seems to get nervous.  The Prince of Poker currently resides in Nevada and has a wife and children.

Scotty won his first WSOP title in 1997 with his first place finish at the Omaha High Low table.  Since then, he has won a collection of event titles including two Fowood’s World Poker Open titles, another WSOP title in 2001 and many more.  Incredibly, Scotty has appeared on the televised World Poker Tour final table event five times over the last few years, baby!
