Phil Ivey - Biography

Phil Ivey, at only 28 years old is truly one of the best players on the circuit these days. Phil is often referred to as “the Tiger Woods” of poker as his first major win was in the 2000 World Series of Poker and at the very young age of 23 years old. He soon proved to the game that he was here to make his mark, when two years later Phil took home 3 golden bracelets for winning the 2002 WSOP 7-Card Stud, 7-Card Hi/Lo and S.H.O.E tournaments (tied for the record of most wins in a WSOP series with Phil Hellmuth and Ted Forrest).

A current member of team Full Tilt, Phil was born in California but moved as a child to New Jersey where he grew up. As a teenager Phil began his life of poker when his uncle taught him to play 5-Card-stud. Already an avid video game player, Phil quickly changed his passion to poker and over the next few years really learnt his game and in his early twenties went professional. Phil, who married his high school sweetheart, currently resides in Atlantic City.

When it comes to Poker, Phil Ivey’s game is 7-Card Stud, but has also proven to be a very strong Texas Holdem, S.H.O.E and Omaha player. Over the past 5 years Phil has had at least one major finish for each of these popular poker versions, making him a very well rounded and divers player (a sign of a true professional). At the poker table Ivey is well known for his intimidating and intense stare. Phil seems to never lose his focus and is in general a very quiet player.
