Gus Hansen - Biography

Gus Hansen, also known as the "Great Dane", is one of the top professional players on the circuit today. Born and raised in Copenhagen Denmark, Gus, along with James Garner and legendary poker pro Doyle Brunson, was one of the first players to be inducted into the World Poker Walk of Fame.

The young Dane (born in 1974) is very well known for his achievements in the World Poker Tour events, winning two championship titles and earning over $1.5 million over the last two years. Gus has also won a number of other high limit poker tournaments in his short time as a poker professional. His favorite poker variation is of course, No lImit Texas Holdem.

Even greater than his WPT successes, Hansen is probably best known for his over the top, erratic and crazy playing. He is a very aggressive player, pushing his opponents around and betting on literally anything. He really knows how to take a risk and win a hand that most wouldn't even consider playing. But guts isn't all he has to offer. Gus is an expert when it comes to mathematics, probabilities and reading other players. His knowledge, expertise and risky attitude is what makes this guy a Hall of Famer and a threat to other poker professionals.

Before Gus discovered his talent in poker, only a few years ago, he was a world ranked professional Backgammon player. With similar skills and strategies, moving on to poker was a wise choice Gus. Ad as a youth, Gus was also a pro tennis champion. Gus is in the process of creating his own Poker Web Site that will be filled with tips and all sorts of poker related info and games.

Although this past year, we haven’t seen too much of the Great Dane, look out for him in the future, because at 31 years old, his career has only just begun.
