Doyle Brunson - Biography
But it soon became apparent that poker was the game for him. After graduating form school with a degree in education Brunson made his living as a "Rounder", making his rounds from one poker game to the next. Over the next little while he married a woman named Louise and together they had four children. Brunson move his family to Las Vegas in the early seventies where there were more games and tournaments for him to win (since back home in Texas, his reputation got the best of him and no one wanted to invite him to games for fear they would continue to lose against this great player). Once arriving in Vegas, Brunson made his mark among the greats when he won back to back WSOP championship titles in 1976 and 1977. Today a full house that is tens full of deuces is often referred to as "a Doyle Brunson". This is because the hand that won Doyle the title in both of these WSOP championship games was, amazingly, a ten over deuces full house. This was the start of an amazing and continuing amazing career for the now 70 year old card shark. To date Mr. Brunson is tied with Legendary Johnny Chan for holding the most (at 10 each) WSOP golden bracelets. Brunson still plays high stakes poker almost everyday and has no intention of retiring anytime soon. Brunson is also the owner and face behind one of the top online casinos, Doyles Room. Brunson’s son Todd seems to be following in his fathers footsteps and takes the game of poker very seriously; he is also a WSOP champion. Another important contribution that Doyle Brunson has made to the game of poker was when he wrote his book called Super/Systems. This book revealed many secrets of the pros and is now considered "a classic" among the thousands of other poker guides out there. This book is still used by many amateur and professional poker players to help perfect their game is noted as being the top selling poker book of all time. Since it’s release, Brunson has written and published a number of other books that are also favorites in the poker game, along with many different columns and articles for a number of poker magazines.
